"They are not crooks. They are not theives. They are not rats." Judging by your other blog posts about your treatment by Filipinos, my experiences in Manila, Angeles City and Baguio City and thousands of Philippine newspaper articles, these people are woefully morally corrupt, from vendors to the top tier of government.
In truth, the godly Filipinas with whom I worked in Florida are as honest and kind-hearted as the day is long. I expected that all Filipinos would be like them. But every week Filipinos try to cheat me, lie to me or steal from me, and I read about all the graft and theft and murder in the local and national newspapers. It's disheartening. The only place I've felt that I and my wallet are safe is sleepy Sagada, in the Mountain Province.

Absolutely lovely blog. It sounds as if you had a wonderful, adventurous family vacation and I agree with another poster that you are handling with issue with grace. It truly is a good example for your children.

Although I have never traveled to the Filipinos, I know Filipino people here in the US are very friendly and hardworking. It sounds like the conversion problem was just a bank flaw, so I am surprised people were getting mad at Filipinos in general for this. I am sorry your family had to go through this ordeal though, and I truly hope the transaction is cleared soon. By the way, another blogger recently wrote an article discussing how friendly Filipino emigrants working in the Middle East are, so I thought you might be interested in checking out his story:

I am just loving your blog. I read about the pizza incident on aol and had to follow it to your blog. You write so very well, and I had to laugh out loud at quite a few of the incidents. (the big book lady, and riding the horse...and I'm at work girl, have to be careful at being caught laughing at your blog!) I could just see it! I have now saved you to my favorites and will be following your travels. You have a beautiful family and what a gift for sharing your experience! Thanks so much

Shannon-
Thanks for checking out my post! I tried very hard to frame your story as a warning to travelers who use their credit cards overseas. Unfortunately, some people took it as an opportunity to launch a blind attack on the Philippines. I was glad to see that numerous people, including you, eagerly stepped up to defend the country. The simple fact is that this could happen anywhere!

Thanks again for sharing your story and taking the time to visit!

Your comments show how gracious you are. You are an inspiration to your kids, and I hope you can set an example for the folks who left such horrid comments. I remember when visiting France, how the moniker of "Ugly American" would precede us!
