Today was a great day!
We knew that we had pre-booked beds in Viladesuso so there was no concern about that while walking.
It started off with a bit of a start with someone banging on our bedroom doors in the middle of the night. Karis and I were in a room together and Mom was in her own. It sounded like two men who we assume were pilgrims that were looking for their rooms and were also renting in the huge house. They actually went into Mom’s room until she yelled at them 😂 thankfully they didn’t come in ours.
We left the house at about 6:40 and headed down to the ferry. The streets were littered with bottles from a party the night before. I do remember hearing it but I was so tired that it honestly wasn’t too disrupting. Drunk teenage boys still staggered in the streets. You could see one boy trying to escort his buddy home but buddy wasn’t wanting any help and was taking swings at his friend. A moment later, a small car screeched up and stopped beside us. There were two boys in the front and four in the back. One of the passengers in the back was sprawled out across his friends and out cold. The driver leaned over and yelled to us, “Policia? Policia??? POLICIA???” Before we could even respond the boy in the passenger seat yelled, “f*cking cops?” I said, “we didn’t see any cops.” And they tore off happily speeding down the narrow cobblestone road.
We arrived at the ferry just before 7. We saw on the schedule that the ferry wouldn’t do it’s first run over to Spain until 10. Long wait. We were approached by a man with a small boat who offered to take us over for 15 euros. Even though we had pre paid for the ferry, (4.50euros) we decided to pay and go with him. Having that 3 hours of cooler walking time was worth the price.
After we docked there was a 2km walk to LaGuardia. We found a cafe, had tea and croissants and continued on.
It was gorgeous today. A couple times the trail took us up hills to walk on the side of the highway but most was spent low in the trees or on the oceans edge. So pretty. So, so pretty!! We met some other pilgrims along the way, walked through cute villages, sat and ate some fruit in the shade and the best part of all… I wore flip flops the whole day! 22.km and my feet were SO happy to be out of those damn socks and boots! My hives are so much better and much less itchy after airing them out.
We arrived into Viladesuso at about 3:30 covered in sweat and dirt. We were disgusting as usual and were excited to have showers. The hostal that we are in doesn’t believe in putting curtains or doors on the showers. 😬 poor Karis. Thankfully we brought our swimsuits so we wore those.
As I write this I am laying in my bed for the night and am ecstatic at how comfortable it is. Definitely the best bed that we’ve had so far. Wrapping this up now as we are headed to find dinner. 😂
